Ok I am taking my AP studio art class right now along with my drawing and painting 3 class. I am way behind schedule, in total I need 4 drawing and two paintings in by Jan. 18th. I will add too this after I sleep, it is 2am right now. I will be updating my progress at least once a day. Here is the piece I am working on now. This is for a collage class, so don't be afraid to be harsh :) .

I never know what do do with these posts, do people really want you to say what you think, or are they asking but hoping you'll say it's perfect. :( I'd hate to offend anyone.

If I were in an art gallery, without the artist being able to hear me, I would say the eye's aren't quite there yet, the ones in the shade on both cats, the red spots on cat B's paws stand out a bit to much, a little bit like he's been hurt (stigmata cat) they draw your eye, and I'd wonder what the black thing looming in from the top was (though I think it would probably become clear when the painting is finished).

But, I am not in a gallery, so I would say I liked it very much, and I would honestly say it's a great painting and you have a lot of talent. And I would smile and add that at 17, I could barely draw a stick man, to let you know I was friendly fire.

That is great :good: . Don't be afraid to point out anything obvious, when I have been staring at the same picture for 5 hours straight nothing seems obvious anymore :S . To add to what I posted earlier, this is for my "concentration" in my AP studio art class. A concentration is 12 pieces that focus on a similar topic, my topic is "the life of cats". Once all the pieces are done they are sent to the collage where they are graded. If they are good enough I get collage credit for them. I am a Senior in high school right now. I was originally only going to take the Drawing & Painting 3 class (DP3), which is the class required before my AP sudio Art. My art teacher encouraged me to take the AP class along with DP3, so I did  . Now I'm not so sure that was a good idea and since the class is for collage I really can't drop it. So, I'm going to be working like mad until Jan 18th. Which is when semester ends and my DP3 class is over :D .

This piece is done with color pencils and most of my pieces will be with pencil, cuz I find it the easiest media to work with. I am hoping to finish it today and another piece before Wednesday. The 1st picture was taken at around 11pm last night this one was taken this morning before I started working on it again, under different lighting. Also I will include the picture I'm going off of so you can make sense of the crazy shadowing  . The weird black thing is the leg of a table, you can barley make it out.

Ah, your first picture did not do it justice at all. I would have given you an entirely different report on the new picture you posted of it. It's very good. :)

the first post
the cats look flat and do not have any spark to them. the image does not stand out.

the second post.

the ginger cat is coming along nicely and looks more alive than earlier. the shading is beter and has more depth to it.

The Tortoise Shell shading is coming along, but the cheeks are to big on the right side of it /under the ear. i feel it makes the cat look odd.

other than that its better than any cat drawings i have done.

I worked all day and it still isn't done :/ .

Thanks, Gill I knew something looked funny, but I couldn't figure out what it was. Updated pic below V.

Now that alot better, the torts face is more proportional than before. it no longer looks lopsided.

OK an update, it has been about 2 months since I've posted on this thread. I finished my drawing and painting 3 class about a month ago. I passed with a B, even though I did really bad on my last piece which was suppose to be analytical cubism. "What is that?" you say, well I have no idea. I drew something, which wasn't it, which is why I did really bad on it. I still have no idea what I was suppose to draw, but I now know I don't like any type of cubism.

So now I only have my studio art class, but so far it has still been quite a bit of work. I got my work done by Jan 18th, I turned in these three pieces. All colored pencil, and I used paint for the whiskers and reflections.

Now I need three more turned in by feb. 29th. I have one done, one semi done, and one just started  -_-. I think I procrastinate a little.

So this is the one I have done. It is a painting, 30"X15" which is the biggest I have ever done before. In hindsight I shouldn't of done it that big, cuz I am very slow at painting. Took me a month to do.

The semi-done piece. I drew this in my freshmen year of high school. My teacher said I could use it if I fixed it up. I need to change the background and fix the cat up.

And this is the one I started yesterday. And the pic I am working off of.

I think your drawings/paintings are great! I am an artist as well and think that people can be a little critical about stuff. I think your work is quite nice and has your own personal signature style. I like it when I can tell that the work is painted rather than it looking so realistic that you can't. Keep up the great work! :good:

Oh and being an artist I can tell you from personal experience..it's dang hard to find work! :hyper:

Wow. You're very good with colored pencils...those things will be the death of me! :S

I think you have real talent with the coloured pencils. Don't take this the wrong way, but I think you're not so great at painting, but you're obviously artistic and I think with more practise, your painting could get a lot better. It's amazing what a bit of practise can do, don't be scared to experiment with the paint.

The one thing I'd say is don't be afraid to make your dark tones REALLY dark. Like, pitch black. And your light tones really light. Like, white. This will give your pictures more depth. In particular I'm talking about your pics of the two cats together. Especially the ginger cat. Notice how in the photo, the left side of the cat is BLACK.

I love the close up pic of the cat's face.

Another tip: when doing big painting, use big brushes. Then at the end, use smaller brushes for detail. Don't be afraid to lay colours on top of each other.
