Well guys I'm thinking about doing a 55g SA Cichlid tank. One of the sites to put it in is my living room, kitty corner from the TV/Audio system. It's a 5.1 with a 660w bass. Now it's usually not up that load, probably only a few times a month when we're having parties or what not. Normally it's as loud as you'd expect to watch tv or a movie with the bass. It's about 20 feet from my aquarium, I'm just wondering if the vibrations from the sound system are going to bug the fish? The other spot is only about 12 feet from the tv, but it's around a wall in a different room.

I have discovered that tolak's statement that fish like heavy metal is true.
My reef is like 5 feet from my drumkit, and I don't play with mutes...it's most likely louder than your TV, and my fish don't seem to mind one bit. It would most likely be perfectly fine.

Yea, fish get used to it, the same as dogs living in the city get used to the racket. Back in the day I was in a metal band, with the gear that would normally be associated with a really loud metal band. The drummer bred oscars, they had no problem with really loud music. I often wished the neighbors were as cooperative.

Besides the drummer's fishroom above the basement where we practiced twice weekly I have a buddy who imports from South America. He lives right by the airport, in a flight path, close enough that you can almost count lug nuts on the incoming jets. Within 24 hours these fish go from the Amazon to living in tanks in his garage, and do better than most fish picked up from a chain fish store.
