i brought two apple snails for my tank about 3 weeks ago. in the first week there are lots of eggs everywhere but mainly on ornaments. its been two weeks and the eggs still seem the same. the eggs are underwater, bright white and about a few millimeters. i'll try and get a pic but any advice will help. i haven't tryed to move them incase i damaged them or should i move them?

cool do you know how long it takes for eggs to hatch its been two weeks

Add to just-under-boiling water for 3 mins, then sprinkle with Dill and a turn or two of black pepper, serve with buttered toast.

sorry.... just messing about.

i have been reading that they lay on the top but mine are inside (in the water) and properly never hatch because apparently the embroys get polluted with to much water. maybe i should clean them out. i'm sure that its apple snails because i have seen them "messing about" if you know what a mean.

I read on a site dedicated to snails that Apple Snails only lay eggs above the water line, in fact that is supposedly a main way of identifying the snails as Apples from other similar looking ones. (they also have an appendage of sorts that gives them access above the water line without out coming up - believed to be old Darwin at work against birds of prey.) I forget what the organ was giving them access for though! But, supposedly if the eggs end up below the water line (underwater) they turn white (not in the fungus sense - but the embryo drowned sense). The article also mentioned that the aquairum lid has to be pretty tight fitting in order to keep the eggs moist through the humidity trapped in that airspace - otherwise they dry out and die. Wish I had the link - but I'm on lunch break at work! Perhaps google a bit?

i've read many sites but for some reason its in the water maybe its there first time or it fell from the top of the hood in the water but they have eggs on there shell and everything.

I'm not sure! There's a good site you can refer to that has a lot of info....

http://www.applesnail.net/

I re-read the site and it seems that some might lay under the water line - they mention several type os sub-species (if that's what you call it)....

i've got loads off the bloody things
all mine lay out the water (even on the tanks bottoms above if i forget to cover tanks)
any that get wet wont hatch ive found anyway
but yours could be diffrent type to mine

i went to clean a cave out today under the water line and there hundreds. i have to get some pictures, and i switched the light on min ago a they were doing it again, i swear its like every two-three days

Wouldn't mind some pictures - when you say they are in the caves are you talking baby snails or egg clusters that are completely under water... That link I posted above tells what sub-species lay eggs underwater as opposed to above the water line....

From the apple snail site...

Egg deposition in the genera Asolene (Asolene), Felipponea, Lanistes, Marisa and possibly also Afropomus and Saulea (anyone info about this?):
These eggs in are laid on objects (plants, stones, and trunks) below the surface. First after deposition, the soft, transparant eggs are relatively small, but increase in size during the first days due to the uptake of water. The eggs itself are embedded in a gelatinous mass to protect them.
When the young snails have eaten all the yolk inside the eggs, they finally eat their way out. During the first days after hatching, the young snails feed on the remains of the egg-mass.
