My Angelfish Is A Spaz

I love my angelfish to bits! But he's very weird...He always gets incredibly excited when ever he sees me and goes extremely colourful and his stripes really stand out. Whenever I sit and try to watch any of my other fish he always gets in the way as if to say "look at me more!"

Also, because I cleaned out my whole tank and the glass is really really clean, I think he can see his reflection in it as he charges the back wall and puffs himself up and flares his gills. This won't hurt him will it? As he does let his reflection have it sometimes, trying to liplock and bang against it.

My bolivian ram also really has it in for him, as all the other fish he'll tolerate in his territory but as soon as the angelfish comes anywhere near, he'll pounce and chase him. But the ram is sooo much smaller than my angelfish

He's the first angelfish I've owned so does anyone have any other experiences with them like this? Or funny stories they wish to share?

what on this earth is a spaz??
if its what i think it is, then may i suggest you edited the title to call your fish something else, when i was young this word was very derogatory, and im thinking to others it maybe too

spaz can mean like crazy or very jumpy (or atleast thats what I see the meaning as or ever meant it to be). Im sure in different countries it has different meanings, but as far as I have ever known it, it is nothing derogatory, just a synonym for someone who is really jumpy.

And to the topics point: This is just territorial behavior. The angel prob sees himself as a dominant fish in the tank and so when you come near, you are a rival and he tries to flare and show how big and tough he is. The fighting of his own reflection is on the same principal, that he wishes to protect his territory. Is the ram paired? Because they are usually a little more on the timid side, but they are still cichlids so protecting of his little corner of the tank doesn't suprise me at all. Sounds like you have two wonderfully boistorous cichlids.

Hmm, well I've never heard spaz being derogatory here...but then again in Australia being called a B*st*rd is a compliment so apologies if it's insulting to anyone!

I just meant what Ox said, he's jumpy and all over the place.

Also my ram isn't paired...I think he's just a bit cranky...in fact I think he's actually a SHE...but I don't know!

I know what you meant, sometimes people up there just don't understand us. This world is getting way too politically correct!! Lighten up everyone!!

On your Angels mine do exactly the same thing.

spaz used to be a bad word lol but as said b4 it doesnt mean the same as it used to especially to young ppl
