Sooo... i got a new angel fish, and baby one, over the weekend, and today i just found her dead on the filter. She was so happy just this morning! And i checked my water levels yesterday and today: 0ammonia, 0 nitrite, 10ppm nitrate, 79 degrees, nuetral, a tiny bit soft, no chlorine or anything. The tank was cycled AND it was used so it already had mature water and filter media AND i added my old filter to it as well whichhas mature media so it was VERY well filtered. The angel was from petco, and i hear rumours that chainstore fish are often sick, but ive had TONSSSSSS of success with petco fish. I doubt my catfish bothered her, nor my tetras, even though they are sometimes a little mean to each other. What do you guys think? I really like angels and i dont want this happening EVER AGAIN! ='(((

Baby angels tend to be very, very, sensitive. Being put from one tank to another even if the water is of better quality can sometimes harm them and cause them to stress. Other times it might just be poor quality fish.

I also think that they are like neons, a bit over bred and there are weak individuals out there. So don't give up.

Oh trust me, i dont want to give up! I work at an aquarium and we have a huge 1000 gallon tank with tonssss of altums, and i just love angel fish. Ive taken care of those with success, so it bothers me that mine at home died so quickly. Am i better off buying one a little older. The one i bought was reallyyy tiny. Couldnt have been older than 4 months

Buy one with the body size (excluding fins) of a nickel or a quarter. That might do you a bit better. Make sure you drip acclimate them. I would normally say that it's over kill, but since one has already died, being extra cautious can't hurt.

So i bought 2 today from the "assorted angelfish" tank. Theyre lovely! One is silver-greenish with 3 black vertical stripes, and the other is like a blotchy pattern, mostly black but with white on his bottom half and gold on his top half. Any one know what types they are?

The silverish green one sounds like a regular strain angelfish, which is as close to the natural colors as you can get without buying an Altum angel or a wild angel. The other sounds like a half-blonde angel.
