Before I start I need all people to read my previous topic.

My Previous Topic

As previous topic people gave me advice not add fish very quickly and check my tank for sometime for water parameter is normal or not. So I check it for 7-8 days and it was all normal. I think because I use old tank gravel and filter.

So as it was all normal I brought 8 neon tetra and 8 amino shrimp. But my LFS was not having good skill at removing shrimp from his tank and put it the plastic bag, I was afraid that from 8 shrimp may some will die. Then when I reach home i put my both bag of neon tetra and shrimp into my tank without opening as I wanted to make water temperature of plastic bag and tank same so I wait for 30 minutes. Then start putting neon tetra 1 by 1 into my 8 gallon tank, it becomes 9 neon tetra in my tank and I show that from 8 new neon tetra 1 was looking sick and was just floating on the surface and not into the water but other were got mingle with my old 1 neon tetra. I feel that they were happy except that floating on surface.

(First day fishes in my house)I open amino shrimp and what I see is that all my shrimp was looking like dead and only that very tiny may near about 1 cm shrimp was looking okay then also I start putting them into the tank. When I was putting into the tank shrimp was falling into the tank as they are dead and going directly to the bottom surface of the tank, only one tiny active shrimp got into water and just got hide somewhere into the tank. I just could not find that active shrimp and rest all shrimp were at the same place. I was also tired and it was late night I just decided to check next day morning in the day light.

Next day (2nd day) morning what I see is that sick neon tetra fish was stick with my internal filter as it was died. So i removed him from tank, Now my neon tetra become 8 again. Next what I see is that only 1 shrimp was on the same place laying not moving, looks like it was going to die. Then I start finding other shrimp but it was very difficult to see them. But atlast I see that all other seven was okay and hiding somewhere. Only sometime they are active.

Next day (3rd day) what i see that some skeleton of shrimp was there in the tank but that shrimp which was looking like dead was still there and other 6 shrimp where hiding in some place. So here my confusion started, what I thought is that 1 shrimp is eaten by other fish and shrimp together and skeleton is only there. I was very unhappy looking at that 1 shrimp is going to die and 1 it is eaten already and remain only 6 shrimp. Same day afternoon when I see that looking died shrimp it was turning pink but still was alive, I was guessing otherwise it was also eaten away.

Next day (4th day i.e.today) morning and afternoon was same position of previous day. But surprisingly at same day night i could not find that shrimp which was going died, So i thought that I was died and could be eaten away. So I start counting shrimp in my tank what found is 7 shrimp rather than 6. Also what i see that before i was having only 2 big shrimp and other 4 was tiny shrimp. But now it was 3 big shrimp and 4 tiny shrimp and all are looking healthy. So I count twice then thrice and forth but always it was 4 tiny and 3 big. I was amaze and too much happy

So my question is, it can be skin of shrimp which was looking like skeleton on 3rd day or that shrimp turn pink become okay.

Next question what can i do that shrimp remain active not always hiding or their nature is like hiding.

Thank for reading my big forum topic. And come forward to remove my confusion.

Amano shrimp do tend to hide a lot until they become comfortable and feel safe in their surroundings. Mine when I had them hid for about 3 weeks but did eventually come out and wander around the floor of the tank. I think you just need to give them time. They do shed quite often and you'll probably find their shed skin all over the tank.
Your neons may well begin to die because by the sounds of it you didn't acclimatize them to your water I.e slowly adding your tank water to the bag before you put the fish into the tank, the change in water parameters can be awful for a fish to deal with unless they get used to it slowly. Neons are known to be very sensitive and should only really be added to a setup that has been fully cycled for approx 6 months (at least).

I hope this helps you to understand what's going on with your neons and shrimps :)

Hi elisew,

Need some more clarification, do skin of shrimp looks like skeleton. And when shrimp start turning to pink means he is going to die!!

When shrimps shed their skin, it looks like just the outside of the shrimp with no inside, and the skin is white.
When a shrimp has shed its skin, the new skin underneath the old skin is soft and needs to harden. Until it is hard, it is easy for fish to eat the shrimp so it hides until its new skin is hard. Shrimp also like to hide in decorations. I have amano shrimp, and sometimes I don't see them for days.

All the dead shrimps I have ever seen were pink. They looked as though they had been cooked. I have never seen a shrimp that was almost dead, so I don't know if they turn pink before they die or after. I have never seen a live shrimp that was pink though.
