Hello everyone, I've decided to take the happenings of this morning and use them an an opportunity to emerge from the shadows and start posting again. So ill start from Yesterday.
Yesterday I had a 50 gallon with around 17 kribs and 4 tiger barbs, all was well: I ended up with this mix due to a severe case of ich that started before I went on vacation a few months ago anyway I thought I had cured the ich but, several days into my vacation my friend who was taking care of the fish (a newbie at fishkeeping but the only person I know who could take good care of them over the few weeks i was gone ) contacted me and said that my fish didn't look too good, so I had her put in a decent dose of ich meds, unfortunately almost all my fish died except for two kribs and the tigers.... well one thing lead to another and I ended up with 17 kribs by the time I got home.most of them are full grown now but they still live with the barbs and never fight with them, which I thought was odd. Anyway, when I woke up this morning I noticed the tank was oddly low on water so I went to grab my bucket from the cabinets under the tank and a ton of water pours out. I pull the tank away from the wall and discover that the stand, floor and cabinets underneath the stand are full of water.I figure the tank has been leaking a small amount from the bottom seams since I moved it into my bedroom a month ago and just last night began leaking much quicker. my only option is to cram all 21 fish into my emergency 10 gallon tank.
All is going well until I drop my heater while setting it up, it smashes into hundreds of glass shards which are almost impossible to see against the soaking floor. Despite my best attempts at cleaning the glass up, I couldn't get it all and I ended up cutting up my feet. Now with all my fish in the tiny ten gallon, being heated by an extremely large heater meant for the 50 I discover another problem. my 10 gallon is leaking from the filter. So now after an entire day of damage control I'm in no better situation than I started with, as a bonus my newly redone wood floor is ruined after a month of being covered in water and I also now have damage in the wall behind the tank not to mention the cut up feet and the money ill have to spend on a new 50 gal tomorrow.
So, hoping to god that I can dry my floor out, get a good deal on a tank and that the glue I have sealing the filter holds for the night so all my fish stay alive. Lesson of the day: always expect an ice berg and always have enough lifeboats for your passengers.
I will update this once I get my new tank set up and a friend of mine takes most of the kribs off me.
Until then, may the fish force be with you.
