Do you guys think I put everything in the right place?

The plants came in a 3 pack but I thought it looked a bit too crowded so I took one of them out and just left the other two in. I also had to take the filter / pump out of the tank cus fishy wasn't too happy with it. He went straight to the bottom of the tank and just slinked around near the gravel when it was on.

It's a Tetra 5.5 gallon tank.

Looks like a nice setup! I breed bettas, and have never HAD to use a filter in order to keep them alive... it just means more water changes on your part.

Looks cute, although you'll want a heater since he'll need a minimum temperature of 78F (25.5C).

I would put the filter back in but try baffling it. There are multiple ways to do this, it may be easier for you to look up vids on youtube for it. But you can tie a bit of filter media to the outflow of the filter (using a rubberband or fishing line) or you can cut the ends off of a water bottle, and do a slit down the middle, and tape it into place.

I'm sorry that's not the best explanation. I'm also not 100% sure if the water bottle will work with that type of filter but worth a shot.

You will also want a lid for the tank as bettas are jumpers and can clear a foot so even having the water lowered will not totally stop them.

So glad you have him in this size tank though, good job

Reading THIS may also help.
I did see your other topic and since you just set it up recently the tank will not be cycled which isn't good for your friend. You said you have another tank you can put him in..what size is it?

Don't feel bad that you didn't cycle it, most of us are told by the LFS we can just throw fish into the tank and it all be fine. You've done a wonderful thing by getting him that size tank and coming here!

This filter runs on air, so you can easily buy an air flow controller to decrease the air flow, therefore decreasing the water flow! I've done this with that exact filter.

It's so refreshing to see someone buying the right sized tank for a betta.
With a tank of that volume and one betta, it won't be a difficult job to cycle. You'll need to monitor the ammonia and keep the levels below 0.25 ppm (purchase a LIQUID test kit for this.) You'll find that you'll be changing 50% of the water 2-3x per week to keep the ammonia down, but test daily to be sure of when a change is needed.
