I have a mated pair of angelfish for approx 3 years in my 90 gallon community tank 2 days ago she stopped eating and does not seem to be swimming normally or as aggressivly as she use to. Her male companion is always around her as they are very close. I don't think it is aggression as all the fish have been in the tank for some time and I have noticed no real aggression at all.
All My water paramiters are good Ammonia-0 Nitrite-0 PH- 7.4 Nitrate- 10ppm or under.
I do 30-40 Percent water changes weekly and vacume gravel fully.
I take pride in my tank and water quality.
I have 2 rena Filters an XP-3 and an XP-4 and I have a Teco T-10 chiller so water is almost always within a degree or so of 79 degrees. The chiller has a UV in it as well.
It is a community tank but these fish have been in there a long time.

My female angel seems to be opening her mouth on occassion very wide and does it multiple times. She does this maybe a few times a day almost like something is stuck but I look and nothing looks wrong.
No other fish including the male / her hubby shows any signs of anything and all seem fine, just my female angel. She does not do her daily mouth locking and flirting with the Male and I'm afraid I may be loosing her and I cant do anything.
Any help would be appriciated. I am sure it's not my stocking as all my fish have been in the tank for some time and she has never shown these symptoms before.
HELP.......

I have also noticed today that her right side gill seems to be open alot more than the left side. I can actually see the layers when I look at her from behind and below. Her left side gill seems fine as it is closed most of the time.
All the other fish are fine even her male hubby.

Does she have anything stuck in her mouth.
Any red sores on the mouth or insides the mouth.
Does the mouth area look bleached out, fluffy, or swollen.
Does the mouth area look red.
do the gills look red and inflamed, swollen, or bleeding.

No there appears to be nothing stuck in her mouth. I did notice a little red spot by her mouth but I figured this could be from them locking mouth's as they do it often. Looked like a vain and the male has had it before after they lip locked etc. The male has gotten the worse of that in the past and I have to think that that is where that came from. Her right side of her gill seems to be open more than the left side and it does look a bit red when I look at it from below. Not sure if that is suppose to be that way or not. She still did not eat this morning and I'd sure hate to loose her as I have had her for 3 years and its a mated pair and I have grown attached to her. No sign's of anything worng in then tank all the other fish seem normal. I can't treat for anything because nothing in general appears to be wrong.

Can you isolate her and use a bacterial med.

Any signs of flicking and rubbing, darting, erratic swimming, excess mucas on the gills.
Hows the fish breathing.

No, I cant really put her in a quar tank, I only have a 5 gallon. She seems to be breathing a bit rapidly and not really darting around or rubbing anything. Her gill looked a bit better this morning but the right side still looks a bit more open than the left. she had a red spot like a veign broke on her mouth below the lip which I would assume came from locking mouths with the male as it has happend to the male before. Today it looks to be gone and looks normal but she has her mouth open constantly.
I did notice yesterday when I tried to feed her a peice of food hit her head and she had a conniption and started darting around the tank trying to open her mouth very big like spasms. I think maybe the male and female got into a tugging / mating thing and something may have dislocated not sure.
My bro's aquarium guy who takes care of his reef tank every 2-3 weeks and also knows my fish tank and fish said the same as they can be very aggressive toward each other.
Im thinking maybe she and the male were locking mouths as they do on occassion and she got injured. I am watching her and have raised the tank Temp to around 81 degrees. The male is constantly by her but she did not eat again this morning. My aquarium guy said there may be nothing I can do but wait it out as its not advisable to treat with meds if no real symptoms appear. I just hope she can pull thrugh this whatever it is. been doing 20 percent water changes every 2 days but all my readings look fine and normal.

Bless her.
You can put the jaw back in line but it's risky.
I would only advise it on large fish. You really have to know what you are doing.

If she darting and swimming in circles fast it's not sounding good. As that can also mean the fish is dying.
Aswell as other things.

Just make sure she not rubbing her gills, or excess mucas on the gills.
Swollen gills can be bad water quality, gill flukes, bacterial, fungus.

Well Wed morning i tried to feed her and she had a spasm again darting around opening real wide multiple times. Then I noticed a bit of blood ( 2 stringy clotted strings expel from her gill). I paniced and took her out of the tank, Isolated her and called my LFS. They put her into a planted tank, only a small fish or 2 in there and will watch her while I am out of town for the next 4 days. I did not want to put a possible panic in my friend who will come feed my fish while im gone. They looked at her and they also think it is gill dmg maybe from bumping something or aggression or bit prob from the male angel but wont rule out the Severum. I just can't believe it to be my BGK as it shows no interest in the angel's.
Anyway, I felt so bad splitting them up the male looks around my tank for her but she's not there. He is eating good. Hopefully when I get back Monday I will stop by the LFS and see if she made it and if she has improved. My main guy up there that took her out and looked at her said she may make it so I am hoping for the best cause not only is my male lonely , So am I :-( .

Fingers crossed she will be ok.
Skins.

Poor thing.
Were the strings parasites. Just need to make sure.
Good Luck with her.

No , did not look like parisite just looked like 2 strings of clotted blood straks. The guy at the LFS which I frequent quite often who put her into a planted tank for the weekend said that may be a good thing there was some blood it may help clear out her gill a bit. Hoping she is better when I get back and makes it and starts to eat. Maybe an empty planted tank willl help with no other fish bothering her. Keep your fingers crossed

How is she today?
