ive just started my new tank bout 6weeks now and tonite i was looking into my tank and somthing caught my eye i thought it was nothing then a few moments later i found a baby platty then found another 3,im well happy but as ive not had my tank long i hav no breeding net to put the babys in but as my tank well planted i hope they will survive till 2mo night when i can go an get a breeding net for the moment,i hav 4f plattys and i dnt no which lady is giving birth  .i read the ideal temp in 75-79 but as im going thru a bit of white spot treatment at the mo my tank is 82 is this ok for the fry?ive left my tank light hope i find more fry 2mo nite :)

Congrats on the fry.

As long as the fry get to the hiding places before they are eaten, they do stand a chance of surviving.

If possible, I would suggest you get another tank, since this is ideal, at least I think so. Plus, you say the temperature is high, so if you get a breeding net, if you place it in the same tank, they'll have to be kept at that temp until you finish treatment (though I think the temperature should not really affect the fry, since it is not all that high).

the fry are fast little critters i just noticed a neon going after it but the fry got away.!hope they have the sence to stay i the plants!!

wow, lucky you! I haven't had a chance to breed my own platies yet and I'm inexperienced on the subject of breeding, so I can't help much. But I think they prob will be ok. Congratulations!

My wife has a little platy breeding thing going on in a 10 gallon. She picks the fish, I take it from there. Load that tank up with plants, plastic, silk, live, it doesn't matter. I know a platy breeder that crams so many plants in a 10 gallon that you cant see to the back.

I used to make a large pile of marble size rocks for the fry to hide in back when I was breeding platys. It works great, the fry fit through the small openings in the rocks and adults don't fit. You have to keep an eye on adults though with this method, once in a while one gets hung up in the rocks going after fry. Accounting for adults a couple of times a day will keep this from happening.

They are pretty smart when it comes to hiding. They normally love to hang aroung plants. Congrats :snap:, they would be very much appreciated :D
