Hello,

Yesterday i added a beautiful betta to my tank along with guppies and mollies. I was told that it would live quite happily with these other fish.....

He seemed happy enough when i added him to the tank but i have got up this morning and he has died :(

Does anyone have any idea why this might have happened?

Thanks

Yeah i left him there for quite a while just to be sure

Oh well i guess you learn by your mistakes

toxins in the tank, acclimitised properly, stress of being moved.

Guppies are nippy fish; they would nip at the fins of the betta. A betta may attack the guppies if they are brightly coloured as he may think they are competition.

sorry to hear that it may be a number of things tho.
the stress of the move, water conditions,he may have had an illness before you brought him but you could not see it and the stress of the move killed him.
also its not a good idea to place a betta with guppys but its not impossible as i have seen many that get on fine, but caution is required.

im fairly certain it had nothing to do with the other fish. most likely he was sick when you got him and the move/stress is what did it. did he look beat up? were his fins tatty as if he were being attacked? only if yes should you consider the other fish as the culprit.
sorry for your loss.
cheers

This has happened to me twice with bettas. One time the new betta was the only fish in the tank, the other time it was just pygmy corys. I think they can just be stressed by the move and/or sick when you buy them.

I would still test your water though, just to check everything is okay, and definitely before you purchase any more fish.

Sorry for your loss :(
