Should my 15 day old baby platies have color now? I see mickey's on alll 3 of the babies tails now. Their mom is a yellow that is shiny w/mickey tail and dad orange mickey tail so I thought maybe at least one would be orange but they are not. I feed them crushed up tropical flakes a few times a day. When will they be old enough to tell male from female and when can I move them to the big tank with the big fish? I know I have lots of questions but i am curious :)

I was able to tell the gender of my mickey mouses when they where a week old. Your males should start to get their color when they're a 1/2 inch long. If your fish you already have in your tank are non-aggressive and well fed, you can let the fry in now. Some of my fry were born in the tank and are doing fine. Good luck!! :D

I really don't know how fish4life can tell the sexes apart at a week old considering live bearer males are sexually mature at 2-3 months old. :/ Anyways, I would wait a good month before seeing definite colour in them. Wait almost 2 months before putting them back in with the parents because then the fry will have reached atleast a inch.

yeah u should be able to tell the sex of the fry after 2 to 3 months and you can put them in the comm. tank when they have doubled in size about(1-1/2 to 2 months

*****************************Good Luck*****************************
:D

I dunno why, but I sware I can tell the sex of my platy fries at about a month time or so... And its not even that difficult to tell! May be it is the kind of platies I have, but the shape of fins are different and some colors also give away their sex...
