Here are pics of my 10g tank and my little tinfoil barbs.

Pics are dark. The camera I used isn't that great so this is all I have for now.

Fish will soon be in a 55g.

Oh, btw, my background is black. Makes the fish more apparent and hides the filter pipe a bit.

Yeah, it is quite bare. I don't have any green plants are intact. The orange gives it contrast. My next paycheck will probably go towards real plants since my girl wants some bubble eyed goldfish.

not with the tinfoil barbs. they are both diffrent kinds of fish, and shouldnt keep goldfish with most tropical fish, as there are some that do prefer cooler water.

and goldfish eat live plants as well, so it would just be a waste of money if you wanted them for decoration.

and finally, goldfish need 10 gallons per fish, so youd only be able to have 1 bubble eye in that tank, yet bubble yes would get to big for that sized tank.

no no... tinfoils are going in 50 gal along with some cichlids once it cycles. goldfish are going in the 10gal and it will be a species tank.

I guess she will just have to pick a different fish then if you can only have one bubbleye per 10gal.

one goldfish per per 10 gallon. Some people think that ONE black moore can live in a 10 gallon its whole life. But others dont. I believe that if it gets to big it should be moved into a 20 gallon.

also the barbs will be 14 inches when fully grown, a 50 gallon tank seems way to small for one, let alone three, as they need to be kept in groups.

Nice, but are you sure its 10G, judging by the size of the plants and heater it sure looks smaller..

yeah it's definately 10g. 20x10x12. Those rocks are rather large as well. They take up most of the floor space in that tank. The only reason I had those rocks there was so they could hide in the shadows because I had fluorescent lighting instead of incadescent bulbs and they freaked out and hid in the corner all day. Also that heater is rather large. I mean the heater that came with the used 55g I got it smaller than that one. I had to put the incadescent bulbs back in and now they're fine. I will probably buy some silk plants and plant them in there and remove those rocks and that ugly orange plant.

I recently obtained a used 55g tank 48x13x20. I was suprised at how thick the glass was. It is nearly 1/2" thick!

Here are my current plans for it:

Completely reseal tank
Install new frames
Build 30" high stand
Sand
Pumice rock
Obsidian rock
Basalt rock

Not sure what kind of plants I will get. I want it to be sort of a desert / volcanic theme. Because that is what my backyard looks like :p

I took the background off. For some reason when I have black background on it they freak out when I turn on the light and hide in a corner. I have no idea why. Especially with a fluorescent light. *shrug*

I use dark blue myself. Was using a jet black one for a while but then saw some pics of people's tanks with blue backgrounds, and I just loved it... And goldfish need 20 gals. for the first one and 10 gals. for each additional goldfish. There's a pinned topic in the Coldwater & Pond section, go check it out if you really want to keep goldfish. I'm sure they'd like that 55 gallon very nicely. :)

edit - here's that link I was talking about...
