Hi,

I've got a 300 L freshwater planted aquarium with angels, clown loaches and silver tips amongst others.
I thought I would add a freshwater mussel in the tank, just one.

Okay, so put it in the tank and it was fine for the first week.

However nightmare scenario just happened!
It killed my 5 inch ghost knife fish.
Think what happened was that he stuck his head in the mussel and it just snapped shut.
Maybe he triggered it somehow?
Guess this is self defence/feeding for the mussel?

Anyway, well annoyed as you can imagine!!!

Did I make a stupid mistake putting the mussel in the tank?
Next question, what shall I do with the mussel?
Will this happen again or was I unlucky?

Thanks for all your help in advance!

well im guessing anything that can snap shut isnt really good in your fish tank.

your other fish will probably stand a better chance cos they can actually see where as the BGK wouldnt of known its a mussel probably.

still i can see some other fish swimmin in there and the same happening.

Yeah, thanks for that.
I would be inclined to agree, anything that goes snap might not belong here.
Every time a fish goes near it, my heart will race!
Likely to get another ghost knife fish in the future and dont want the same thing happening again!
Cheers,

You want it chardonnay?
I would like it to go to a good home and all that!

:D
Jokes!
Worth a try..! Well and truly lumbered with it!

youll probably find your LFS will take it back.

as for the ghost knife i kno how it is to lose one of them :(

trouble is now i need a big one so that my oscar doesnt eat it but there so hard to find and the longer it takes the bigger the oscar gets so the bigger and harder to find a BGK is!

hopefully got a 5" one lined up for the end of the month if the person still has it...

Yeah will try and swap it for some tetras...

I agree BGK are wicked fish, different from the usual.

Hope you manage to get your hands on a large enough one not to be munched by the ever-growing oscar!
:D
