Hello hope someone can help me? I brought a cayman 80 fish tank with a bluewave 05 filter about 10 months ago. The problem I have the water never seems to get crystal clear, It always murky. If i do regular water changes it gets better but after a few days it starts to turn again. Most people tell me they only change a small amount of water once a month, but i have to change at least half the tank weekly to keep the water clear. Surely this is not right. Could the filter not be performing as it should be? Any suggestions?

Im even thinking of trying a new tank and filter.

The filter must not be the right size try to get a bigger one and maybe another reason your water is murky is because your taking to much water out and your causing mini cycles.

Have you got any wood in your tank? Your only doing slightly above the needed amount of water changes, so no worrys there.

I had this problem on a tank of mine. Would go clear, then murky, change lots of water and go clear, then go murky again. It had an internal filter and wasnt up to the job. Changed it for a external canister filter for a tank size bigger than what I had and had crystal water in a matter of no time.

If you have driftwood that could be the problem, but if not I'm afraid I'm at a loss... is the water milky, or tea-like? Just FYI, most people on this forum recommend doing a 10-25% water change once a week rather than once a month

I think it might be the tap water itself too. I had this problem when I lived in a different home in the area with older plumbing. It had a lot of stuff that would come out in the water. After I switched to mineral water and R/O water as well as moving somewhere else, it didn't happen again.

the tank possibly might be overstalked and produces a lot of waste. or you might be over feeding. or simply the filtration isnt enough. can you tel us how many gallons the tank is and how many fish. also what are your water stats.

might be algae festering.
Do you have live plants in the tank, and how long is the light on for?
Have you had phosphates checked?
