multiplying neons

i bought 10 neons the other day
as one oif my old posts said
and 2 went missing


now they have reappered but now i have 11

is that possible do they breed that quick or am i just
not very good at counting fish

No seriously - it's quite impossible to buy 10 "just the other day", then lose two and then to suddenly have 11 - meaning 3 babies that have suddenly grown into adults in a matter of a few weeks.

I don't know much about neon breeding (apart from the fact that they are egg layers) but it's not something that just "happens" - and even if it did, the fry would be practically microscopic to start off with and would only be millimetres in a couple of weeks time.
 
You've had a stowaway!

Neons are supposed to be some of the harder tetras to breed: on top of conditioning (special food), they need exactly the right water conditions, right temperature, a darkened tank for the eggs to develop in etc etc. It's not one of those things that just happen. And it would take considerably longer for the eggs to develop into babies, let alone adults.
