i have 3 neolamprologus multifasciatus "multies" in a 24x12x15 i did my research there doing fine all healthy in pristine water filtered off a simple double sponge filter

thing is i read they breed like hell, ive had them around 3 months now and no babies in site, as far as i can tell i have 2 males and one female. one male lives in the left hand back corner and the other male lives in the right hand front corner with the female in the shell next to him. so i dont think the other male is bothering her as ive never seen them anywhere near each other. theres around 30 shells in the tank i figured more rather than less.

any tips on getting them to breed would be much appreciated :good:

How big are they? What are you feeding them ? I never did anything special to get mine to breed.Mine breed roughly every 30 days now.I noticed the females spent a lot of time in one particular shell and every time they came out they were pushed back in again by the male. When feeding add finely crushed flakes and watch the bottom of the tank,in between shell and you may see some movement. The only advice i can give is look carefully as the fry are very, very, very small.

the males are an inch long and female slightly smaller i feed them a little mix i made for some fry i had its basically algae wafers, flake and catfish pellets all crushed into a powder and every weekend they get microplankton

its just baffling me at the moment

heres a pic so you can c what im working with

ill try and get a pic but yea im 99.9999999999% there is

the one i think is female keeps going darker in colour

1 female isnt enough.you should add 2 or 3 more.then u will have fry.the males are too busy fighting about the female to actually do any mating

easier said than done i had to get these mail order from trimar i ordered 4 and asked for 3 females 1 male got 2 males 1 female and 1 dead no where sells em where i can get em trimar dont have em any more!

just thought id point out the males never go near each other well ive never seen em near each other in 3 months

i dont drive so theres no use really unless there sumwhere else that does mailorder?

I found my females went darker when breeding,a sort of red/brown colour. How much did you pay for them ?

try looking around buy and sell.post a topic saying u are looking for them to be shipped.some people here have them and they breed alot

I started a 15 gal with just one pair of multies. I too was disappointed at first when they did not breed right away but after about 3 months I had my first batch of fry. After 6 months I had over 30 fish! Sounds like your fish may not be quite mature yet if tyhe males are 1" and the females a little less. Just give them time, it sounds like you're doing everything right.

i paid 6.99 each for them i beleive i did order 4 but 1 DOA not to worry though

i think i might post in buy and sell and c whats what i reckon :good:
