I have a 20g FW community set-up just now. I was thinking of going for a bit of a change and have been doing some research on mudskippers. Is my tank big enough for any? If not what is the minimum recommended tank size to keep them. I was also wondering if they prefer to be kept in groups or not. Do they eat an frozen or live fish food - or is just insects and other things like that? If anyone knows of any good resources on mudskippers as I can't find much about them.

Cheers :good:

A "long" 20 gallon tank is adequate for mudskippers. Do remember the main problems are these: escaping from the tank, territoriality, and the fact 'skippers need a 3-D environment they can climb about. There's a "dwarf" species in the trade (likely related to Periophthalmus novemradiatus) known as Dwarf Indian Mudskipper that only gets to about 5 cm in captivity. It would be ideal for your aquarium.

My brackish book has a huge chapter on Mudskippers by 'skipper guru Richard Mleczko. Anyone interested in these fish would find that chapter essential reading. The Aqualog book also has a good section on these fish.

Cheers, Neale

So in a tank that size should I just have one or should I get a couple?
