Hello.

I have a 600l tank that is currently empty, and I am thinking of mud skippers.

I seem to remember that they need a very specfic setup, with a sloping mud area where they can move out of the water, along with a deep water area.

The tank that I have spare is 29" tall, so I can easily accomodate both types of habitat. However, I have some questions about it. These are essentially my initial investigation questions.

1) If I was to set up a biotope for this species, what other fish could I place in the tank?
2) What other creatures can I use - specifically, are there any shrimp species that would survive?
3) Does anyone have any pictures of mud skipper setups that they could post or link to?
4) What sort of filtration/water stats are reccommended for this sort of system?

Many thanks indeed.

Steve

I've been interested in mudskippers for a while now, but I can't find them anywhere to buy.

For the other fish in the tank, I think that any fish that is larger then they are, but that won't eat them is good enough, but I'm not sure. I think that Fiddler Crabs would survive in there, but I'm not sure about shrimp.

Here's are some pictures of some tanks that I found through Google:

This one here shows a log that mudskippers could climb out on:

Here's an interesting diagram of a setup I found here:

and about the filtration and water stats, I'm not really sure.

Hope I could help,

Brilliant.

Thank you very much for this.

Hmm... I think I can source the mud skippers, but I'm not sure I want to get them until I know I can keep them safely.

This has been a good start.

Thanks

Steve

I did buy two Fiddler Crabs and put them in with them, but the Mudskippers ate them both unfortunatly, there wasnt much of them left.. Im going to be getting some live River Shrimp for them to eat soon, and also Zebra Nerites to keep the algae down, and hopefully not get eaten.
