Mudskipper................parished

There was somebody on this site that thought everybody was a troll. I don't think it was you, but don't prove me wrong

It wasn't me, but if you go back and read the first few posts, how can you not think that?

Kids around here go a lot of places without their parents, so I don't think it's too far a stretch to say that kids under 16 could easily get to a pet store and buy some fish.

I've no comment to make about the rights and wrongs of selling fish to under 16's or handling mudskippers but the thing I find really weird is why would anyone who knows what they did was unacceptable and wrong would want to post it for all and sundry to see on a forum? Bit like the Tricia show imho. :/

This is what my initial problem was and my real complaint lies with the people who were oh so happy to gloss over it and defend it.

This topic isnt really about Jaws and what he did anymore, I've already apologised to him in full via PM for probably being too harsh, his posts are going on deaf ears now though, he keeps piping up to show genuine remorse and no one even cares about that anymore

The main point about the under 16s rule is that here in the UK, if you arent considered old enough to have sex, not old enough to get married, not old enough to drive a car, not old enough to have a proper bank account etc then you're obviously not old enough to be solely responsible for a live animal and it's welfare in the eyes of the law.
It is unaccompanied children under 16, not all and anyone under 16. The idea being that a responsible adult must accompany the child and consent to them having a pet and therefore be responsible for if something goes wrong.

It is not ageism or prejudice. It is sensible to have restrictions that can be broken for people who have clearly demonstrated their maturity and sense rather than no rules at all.

And Lynden, your immaturity absolutely shines through as you call me an asshole on an open forum for all to see while taking every word I say out of context ;)

This has certainly been an interesting topic to read. How did it go from dead mudskippers to drivers lisences? I feel your pain, brother, since I'm only 12 and I've benn ridiculed on here.

I haven't seen you ridiculed on here, but I don't frequent this section of the forum much, and I would hope people aren't doing this just because you're 12. I'm sure there are plenty of younger people that can take great care of fish, but it seems like common sense not to do something like pick one up out of the tank, even if it is a mudskipper.

my only problem was not with the arguement itself but the way the kid was dealt with!!!! :p

I still think that the "no fish to people under 16" rule is a pile of crap. I find that the people most likely to harm fish are college kids anyway.

You are, with your freshwater moray and saltwater betta experiments, living proof that under 16 yr olds should not be permitted to buy animals.

I think you're a bit of an asshole...

Also, please tone down your rude outbursts. I've alluded towards this before, but I will make a complaint about you/report posts if you can't temper yourself.

Saedcantas was possibly a bit harsh, but her post brought back some gravity to what occurred that was probably missing before. It is clear that a lesson has been learned here by Jaws and that's the important thing, so maybe a line should be drawn?

Oh bummer, nevermind.

Jaws....

So what's the verdict? Are you going to get yourself another mudskipper?

Atleast this time you'll know not to hold it, and without making mistakes we wouldn't learn anything - so well done for being sorry, and getting on with it!

Regards,

Paul.

Do you know what sort of a setup mudskippers require etc.?
Please, enlighten us. Ye All Knowing of fish. What setup do mudskippers require? I know you're dieing to prove someone wrong.

OK, calm down everyone. It was a valid question. Mudskippers do need an unusual habitat, and establishing that Jaws knows about that is the correct thing to do before recommending another one is purchased.

Plus the rest of us might learn something when the response comes- I don't know how to keep mudskippers properly, and I reckon there aren't many putting their oar in here who do.
