I would like your opinion on what you think has happend to my discus...

The other day i put a few algae waffers in the tank the discus pigged out on them, the same day I also did a water change but changed a bit more water than usual but not a lot about 10% more.....did the normal dechlroinated etc...the next morning i wake up to find discy floating at the top still alive, his stomach was a bit swollen, and he couldnt keep his body down like there was somthing wrong with his swim bladder, i went to work expecting to come home to dead discy only to find him alive and well and looking normal....the same thing happend once before after a water change....although i cant remember what i had been feeding him that day....soooooo

1) did he eat to many algae waffers and bloat himself or
2) somthing happens during my water change to cause this....???

hope this makes sense.... :dunno:

he is totally fine at the moment....

I would also like to know, i was goingt o post this question today but i saw this. I did a water change then fed them, the next morning my red discus was floating on its side on the floating plants, i came back later and it was perfectly fine awimming like nothhing happened :dunno:

their stomaches are relatively small and positioned near their swim-bladder.
So if they eat too many flakes, which can expend a little in their stomaches anyway, then their stomache will press on the swim bladder.
This will mean they will have difficulty with buoyancy and holding a normal position in the water.
my vote goes to eating too many flakes rather than a water change.

I can't help with him symptoms....but your Mr Discy is as bad as my Mr Sucky (bulldog plec!!). Also, my agassizi apistogramma is called Mr Agassizi..... I think I need to get an imagination!

Pellet food should be soaked in water before feeding discus. I have read about too many people getting bloated discus when feeding pellets. People have lost fish from it.

Cheers thanks for the info....wont be feeding so much ne more!

and yes Mr discy....mayb he needs a proper name hahaha
