ok so im moving to another place pretty soon and i have a problem with my 30 gal tank...

how am i going to move it?

the thing of most concern to me is, how do i keep the water i have now so i dont have to redo the water and put my fish through all that "moving into a new tank" feel?

im not going to carry the water in buckets as i think all of you know what would happen to buckets of water in a moving car :p

How far are you moving?

Your filter is more valuable than your water, but its not bad to try to save some. Get some 5gallons with a lid at home depot or somewhere and haul it..

I moved many times and have yet to lose a fish. buckets, zip locks, and sedatives work well together

moving the water is really unneseary just make sure the filter media's are kept wet/moist the whole travel time untill they are put back in a newly filled dechloled tank doing a full water change would actually be quite benificial 2 the fish i have done full changes just for the sake of getting the tank 2 a completely spotless condition and ive never once lost a fish ..... silly thing 2 remind u of but make sure when filling the tank u use water which is same temp or similar 2 the final tank temp if uve already added the media...... also dont clean the filters at all untill u do ur next water change just 2 make sure u dont lose any valuable bacteria :)

i cant understand why people feel the need to keep old tank water
it is of no good to you as jenclibee said
i do a 90% water change once every couple of months and the fish love it - seem to thrive - if i could do 100% at once i would but fishies wouldnt be too happy lol
i still do the weekly water changes - add that before anyone jumps in and shouts at me ;)

with the filter when i moved i kept the filter in tank water and every so ofter jiggled and spun it around a bit to get some water still going through the filter - well what you can anyway

to move the fish make sure you try and keep them as shaded or as dark as possible either in bags in a dark bag or in buckets containers with a dark cover over the top this prevents extra stress , they really calm down when its dark

good luck with the move

i had to do this quite a few times at college with my betta. find some old containers and try to take as much of the water with you as you can. i also took extra water from the college that i could use for a few weeks too slowly adjust the fish to the water here. as for the fish do not keep them with the tank when you move this leads to more trouble. see if you can't get a large bucket some fish stores sell them if not a home improvment store and get the fish and water in there just remember air for them as well.
good luck on you move i hope you a sucessful with it

i wouldn't be so worried about the water if it weren't for the fact that i have it absolutely perfect, imo. but your responses have given me assurance so im not so worried anymore. im moving about half an hour away so its not so bad.

dark bags like...garbage bags? lol there would be a catastrophic mix up since i have lots of garbage i need to throw out. jokes aside, i know what you mean. i'll see if i can get containers with lids..they seem more secure than bags.

thanks for everyone's advice!
