Hello ppl,
Im moving house in 2 month and i need some idea on how to safely move my 8 gallon = 38 litter tank which is quite heavily planted tank with out having to take everything apart like take out all gravel plants and so on, as it will take me ages to put everything back together and i really realy wouldnt like to do it all over again  + i have some fish there too like 1 gappy and 7 neon tetras.

I thought of taking like 75% of water with fish and trying to leave all the plants in it for that one day move and then put some water back as i will place it in 6 - 3litter bottles... is that any good... i really need your help guys!

Cheers any ideas or maybe some one who had similar experiences can help me would be really nice.

Regards, Sergey

take out the larger bits of hardscape and the stem plants, put the stem plants in a fish bag with a bit of water, then drain almost all of the water so nothing is sloshing about, put as much water in bottles as you can, put the fish in bags, then move it all and get it set up at the new place soon as possible, place the hardscape back in, then fill with water, then put in the stem plants then fish, hope that helps. :)

I would just drain all the water into a couple of plastic tubs/ buckets, and put the fish in the buckets. Remove any big rocks or driftwood but leave the plants alone. Put some plastic (Glad Wrap/ Cling Wrap) on the tank to seal it up and keep the plants moist. Then move the tank with plants in (keep them out of the sun to prevent them cooking).
Once you get to the new place put the tank wherever it is going to live and add water and fish.
Don't feed the fish for a couple fo days after the move and monitor the water quality closely for the next couple of weeks.
It's a good idea to do a water change and gravel clean the tank a few days before moving. Also try to clean the filter out a couple of weeks before the move.

Thanks for your suggestions mates, its not that far to move about couple of miles, so i will be carrying the tank on my laps in the car just to be safe and my wife can drive. Im worried more about if i drain the water to a bottles and leave some just above gravel in the tank that that little water will bounce from side to side (speed humps hate them) and will damage some of my plants.

Cilin T - i cant hover the gravel coz of my Carpeted plants :(

Its my first move with the tank and i think im gona hate it so much... feel sory for plants and fish

I move my little 8g around all the time. It's actually due for another move. Probably stating the obvious, but when you rinse out the filter media, use old tank water or at least dechlorinated tap. For some reason the thought occurred to mention it. And just be careful with the move. I would also leave the plants for the most part, I just moved heavy hardscape. Just watch your parameters for the next few weeks. How long is the move? You may want to consider protecting the media with air circulation in the water.

Hehe, spot the Auzzie... In case you didn't know Colin, it snowed here yesterday, about 2 inches of the stuff! :hyper:

Edit - But of course that information is of use should someone be reading this topic who isn't in blustery blighty :)

LOL
ok point taken.
Mental note, it doesn't get hot in the UK, just cold, wet and snowy :)

I wonder what snow and rain look like. Hmm maybe we'll get some in a few years.

lljdma06- The move shouldn't take too long as i said it all will be done in one day.. shuld be getting to new place within one hours.

And Collin T: Here is the pic of the snow i took 2-3 days ago from my window ^_^

By the way any other precautions i need to do or make sure i dont do?

Thanks all for suggestions :)

that's a cool picture. It almost looks like a black & white photo but the brown building stops that from happening.

The only other suggestion is to keep the fish warm.
I'm going the other way now
too cold, too warm, too cold too warm :)
