yesterday i noticed one of my platys was pregnant so i decided to clean out my old 6 gal... now the 6 gal has been running for nearly a year now and i took the filter out and put it in a bucket filled with tank water and left it running. i then emptied the tank of all of the old gravel and washed it out with clean water...
I then filled it back up with about 90% dechlorinated water and 10% old tank water and put the filter and heater back in... i kept all the hardware wet so the bacteria wouldnt... 'die'

right... my question is, how long should i wait before putting the pregnant fish in there? its been up and running again for over a day now

cheers

how long has the tank been without fish in it? because if the bacteria has no food(ammonia from the fishes) the bacteria dies

If the new tank is needed at any moment i would suggest you "share" some water between the existing tank and the one already set up. This way our new tank will mature much more quickly and be ready for your pregnant platy.
