hey,

i really hate moving my fish tank but i am moving house and wouldnt dream about leaving my fish behind! i was just looking for ideas that may be the best way to move them! i have babie mollies that are just a few months old in my tank and really dont want to cause any stress to them or the other fish!

CFC moved house not so long ago with 18 big tanks so he obviously knows his stuff!! :good:

I moved my unstocked 10 gal recently. This is what worked for me. YMMV

I got a nice size bucket (it's probably 3 gal) with a tight fitting lid. It was the largest I could realistically get in my car. I drilled a couple holes in the top and filled up the bucket about 60-80% with tank water, stuck it on the floor in my backseat and drove them to their new home 400 miles away. The agitation from the road seems to give enough O2 exchange that the fish dont' suffocate. I also tried to make sure the car temp was comparable to the water temperature.

Most of the gravel in the tank stayed damp the entire time. If I were to do it again, i'd put the filter pads in a water filled bag/bucket as well.
