Hello folks,

I am moving house on sunday into a new flat with my brother. But I was wondering how to move the fishies.

I usually put them in a bucket and transport them that way, but what about when I fill the tank back up, all the water will be totally different to that in the bucket and their tank prior to moving.

What would be best to cushion the blow for the fish.

cheers like.

When I moved and the way I did it was to get hold of some large plastic food boxes and moved as much of the old water as I could (about 30% of a 240LTR). I set the tank up at the other end with the old water, added the fish back and then toped up with new water. It was no different to doing a large water change.

it's only a 14 gallon tank so i suppose two buckets would do it. cheers

Had the same problem myself recently with my 20 gallon. i put the fish into food containers with old water from the tank and also kept the filter and gravel wet. Drove hour to the new flat then it was another hour before i had filled the tank 3/4 full with new water and got the heater and filter working, then waited a couple of hours for the tank to heat up (unfortuneately hot water in the flat wasn't working properly) then floated the containers in the tank for half an hour then released the fish with the old water into the tank. all worked lovely. and all fish were alive. :D

However some of them died a few weeks later from a fungal infectian from a newly introduced fish :X

Hope that advice helps and have fun in your new flat!

spot on cheers aloaring.
