:hi: to the forums.

How far is this move? I am going to assume across town, and not across the country. What I did when I moved (granted, with smaller tanks at the time) was save about 1/2 my water in buckets (the 5 gallon type with lids) and with water cooler bottles, with caps. One bucket was for my fish, another for my decorations, substrate and filter media. The rest of the water I decided to keep went into the bottles. Once emptied I moved the tank and fish etc to my new place and went about setting it up right away. Reset the tank, put the gravel and decorations in, then some water, then my fish. Once I had everything up and running I added the new water, so all told I did a 50% water change during my move. I didn't lose any fish or have any other major problems. Making a cross-country move is outside of my experience, so if that''s your case, someone else will have to help you there.

Once again, :hi:

Hi Julie! ;) I think you'd be able to find a lot of info on this if you do a search (in this forum) on this topic. But, I can give you a quick run through of what I did when I moved:

I do water changes daily about three days before the move and I don't feed the fish for this long.

On move day, I put fish in a lfs bag with some of their tank water. I submerge filter bio-wheel, gravel, decorations etc in tank water (using a bucket or whatever) for transport.

I do not transport the excess tank water...

I move empty aquarium, fish, filter/deco etc to new residence and set up tank very quickly with everything (minus fish). Then I acclimate the fish to their NEW aquarium set up...just as I did when I first got them. Be sure to acclimate them again because it will be new water and they will need to get used to it.

Being that the filter bio-wheel, gravel and all that good stuff was kept submerged, you shouldn't have to endure another cycle...your tank should instant cycle again once you set it up.

All the best to ya!
