Am moving house Bristol to Swansea, I have about 15 fish

Tetra's
Gourami
Plec
Kribs
Siamise fighter

excuse my spelling if wrong.

What would people recommend for travelling the journey is 1hr30mins.

I was thinking of leaving 1/4 tank of water in the tank, putting fish into bags then put in tank and travel down.

Is this okay???

Hiya

When we moved, wasnt as far as you tho this is the advice we were given.

*empty tank to around 4 inchs of water, but bottle as much of the old tank water to take as you can.

* Leave the filter laying in the tank water.
* Double bag fish and put in paper bag if poss so its darker for them.
* Do not feed for two days before the move.

I transported some baby platies to my mums in derby form kent ( 3.5 hours ) they were just double bagged and they coped fine witht the trip.

There are spec tanks you can get for travelling i believe.

Hope this helps, sorry i dont have much info. Good luck with the move

Bag your fish up indivdually if you can, and make sure you get loads of air in the bag aswell, fish will not run out of water but they will run out of oxygen, i you have a good lfs near you, you could bypass there on the journey and get them to give the bags a good blast of oxy from a cylinder, they might even supply you with bags in advance if you were a regular. put your bagged fish in a big white poly box to keep them warm. Empty as much if not all your water from the tank to make it easier to move and keep as much as you can in buckets. Its a tough move going that far, get the tank set-up when you get there before you do anything else. Good luck :good:

Also make sure you keep your filter in one of the buckets of water, do not let that dry out.

Have read that is a good idea to remove all water from tank to prevent cracking etc, was gonna put as much as poss into big water bottles.
And think put fish in bags in the tank, hopefully be okay.

Anyone advise different please advise.

keeping the old tank water wont make much difference as minimal amounts of bacteria are in it. As long as you keep the filter media in the tank water and the gravel wet (i.e leave a few inches of water in the tank) the tank wont go into a mini cycle.
So bag the fish, put in paper bags (keep as dark as poss to minimise stress), then off you go! Just remember to use dechlorinator when you fill the tank back up, and leave the water for a few hours to get to the correct temperture. Float the fish for half an hour and leave the lights off for another few hours.
Good luck!

filter is built in the tank on the side gonna be hard to keep wet.

I would try to keep some water (as much as you can) true your filter is the most importent and your water only contains a very small percentage of bacteria that is any good to you, but i am not in the habbit of doing 100% water changes.

All you need to do is take the sponges out and put them in a plastic bag full of tank water. Is it a jewel tank then? The sponges should just lift out from the top.

another quicky for ya after just looking in my tank i think the female Krib is pregant, belly seems a lot bigger and glowing alot more red.

what do you think?

Most all good advice, though iw ill say, just put media in tank water in bag, and place bag in with fish. No need to keep water unless the water at your new home is drastically different in pH... if the pH is roughly the same, just fill tank with new water, float the bags and after 15 to 20 minutes, put fish in. if pH is drastically different, say 6.5 as compared to 7.5 or 8.... then I would still just use new water, but slowly acclimate the fish... ie float the bags but every 5-10 minutes, add some of the new water to the bags and do it for maybe 1.5 to 2 hours... this will slowly change the pH of the bag water and help the fish change over to the new water.

Ox :good:

LOL yey someone agrees with me!

If you have a pair of Kribs the chances are the females preg, they breed like bloody rabbits. Just leave them to it, though watch out for agression towards tankmates after they have the babies (which btw are adorable)

Hey Wonka

Where are you moving to in Swansea specifically? The water around here varies quite alot from area to area, I can possibly help with getting you an idea of PH from a mates house or something. One thing to note though is that the water will almost certainly be 'softer' here than in brezzle!

For the records i live in Swansea Central and the tap PH is around 7.4-7.6, GH of ~6d and KH of 0-3d
