Hi Everyone,

We are moving house in about 4 weeks and I just want to get some tips for moving the fish.....

We will be living 30mins away from where we are..... how long can I put the fish in a bags to move?

Thanks,

Jo.

I've sold & bought fish at auctions that have been bagged for 12+ hours, half an hour is nothing.

Don't feed them for 24 hours prior to bagging, & make sure you bag with 1/3 water, 2/3 air. Put the bags in coolers if it's colder out. Fish are easier to catch if you drain out a good portion of the water.

Empty everything out of the tank, gravel included. Keep the filter media, gravel, & decorations wet to keep the nitrifying bacteria alive. Try to bring half of the old tank water with you if possible.

what size and types of fish are they??

because you can always geta cooler tat doesnt leak and put them in there but the cooler would have to be steril and that way u can ring the old fish water too :)

how many tanks do you have? I just moved my four, and found stack a boxes (bought for the purpose) very useful for keeping the filter media/gravel/sand/plants/goldfish in. The have lids, but I cling filmed round the top first and then put the lids on. They didn't spill and they were two hours drive in the van. My fish were all in the bags about four/five hours.

While I stripped down the tanks, I first put all the fish into buckets with a filter and a heater.

WARNING it takes a LOoooooooooooooooooongggg time to strip down a tank. I estimated my four would take five hours between them. They took 7 hours for the first two (large ones) and 3 hours for the second two (slightly smaller).

Whoa!!! I'm glad you warned me of the time.... i'm grateful I only have the one tank (atm)..... We'll get the keys the day before we move, so I'm hoping to move the fish then before any of our furniture.... also to get them out of the way....

Boxes and cling wrap is a good idea - we have the freeway to travel pretty much the whole way, so it wouldn't be a bumpy ride :)

Thanks again!
