Hey guys, i have 9 mollie fry that are currently living in a breeding trap, however it keeps getting in the way and the tank now needs major cleaning. Im thinking off popping out to buy a small tank to keep the fry in, i have a small heater too.

How would i get them into the other tank instantly without any problems? :/ i dont have a week to cycle a new tank ect :(

take the filter media from the existing tank and put it in the new one!getting another samll tank is a good idea and will make the fry grow faster.pout in some water from the other tank too!

Its a bit difficult for me to put filter media in the smaller tank as i have an external canister filter :| what about if i filled the tank up with water from the other tank?

The water holds almost no bacteria, it mostly resides in your filter & substrate. I've put media from my canisters into a hob. Just get a filter like Aqua Clear, take some media & put it in a clean nylon. This, along with the sponge, will hold it in place.

i really thought filtration wouldnt be a huge issue for fry until they got bigger though?

No it is even more important with fry as because of there size and fragile stage they are far more sensitive to water temp and stats in comparison to adult fish.

What i would do is buy a small filter for the tank and run it along side your established filter for a couple of hours. This should give enough time for some of the good bacteria to be transferred; test the water stats after a day and repeat the process again before putting the fry in.
Make sure the tank temp and water stats are as close as posible to the frys current tank before putting them in and you shouldn't have any probs
