 hi just wanted some advice, my sis in law brought some fish then decided she doesnt want them, or is going to dump them on her mother who is definatley not a fish lover or animal lover for that matter  Anyway I am a fish lover :D and was wondering rather then them have the fate of the toilet bowel, how would it be possible to transfer them to my house 80 miles away?

Think i spelt bowl wrong :*)

yeah shouldn't be a problem just bag them up!!, well not quite that simply, i transported mine in an insulted fish box i got form my LFS, and they weere all fine in that, maybe add a heater if you think the jornet will take a long time

she has mollies guppies and a fighter fish zebra danios (i think) thats it
the journey takes about ihr and 45mins, I wouldnt know how to do the heater thing?
:-(

Gonna sound stupid but what are they. could you tell me step by step what to do and do you think i will need these if the journey hour and 45 mins?

Ps can you give me some advice how long will i have newbie above my name?

newbie i think till u reach 30 posts.

heat pads u can get form camping hiking outdoors type shops. bascailly bag them up as the do at the store and put them in teh box with the heat pad. thats all i did, though there may be a better way

Every time I purchase fish I have a 3 hour drive to get them home. The last time I bought 25 fish. I pack them in a padded box and keep the lid closed ( to reduce the stress level for the fish) they are calmer in the dark. I have never lost a fish transporting in this way.

So should i just put the fish in bags half water half air  then place in a box tightly packed so dont fall over and maybe stick a heat pad in there? is that right :/

I think you should get a cardboard box or cooler (the insulated ones), bag the fish up, out them in the box then fill it up 1/3 with polystyrene beads or similar to stop them moving around. You don't nessecarilly need heat pads, but it might be better. Shut the box up to keep it dark.

 thank you i will look into doin that in the meantime until i can get there i shall phone and ensure the toilet is not there fate. I dunno some people :flex:

Another 1 for you. If I am to move them to my house i am going to need their tank too. BUt if they are being moved in bags and i bring the tank , i am going to have to fill the tank once here, and the fish will have to go in straight away. But that is not good for temperature reasons and everything else. :/ So how do i go about this as the tank i have will not accomodate all of them? :-(

Please give help someone  Only jokin, seriously wantin to do this move soon and havent got a clue? Above topic explains all thanks

Sharkey, so long as you insulate the bag/container they should be ok for the journey (I have done it). When I did it, I transported them in a 30 litre brewing bucket (comes with lid) with about 10-15 litres of water. I wrapped the bucket in towels for the journey, then when I got them home I used an airline to slowly add water to the bucket from my existing tank and gradually bring up the water temp in the bucket before netting them and adding them to my tank.

Regarding the tank, what plans do you have regarding the filtration of the new tank? If you are bringing the existing filter, you will need to keep the media in tank water for the duration of the move and be quick to set it up once home, to avoid killing off the existing bacteria. I would advise you age some buckets of water for a couple of days before you move them, this will bring the temperature up to room temp and give you a head start. If you have an existing tank, you could syphon some water from that to help too...

what does that mean (you will need to keep the media in tank water for the duration of the move and be quick to set it up once home, to avoid killing off the existing bacteria. ) Bit slow at all this i am :-(
