Usually when I move a fish from one tank to another I just net it up and move it over as long as the temperature in each tank is pretty much the same and so is the ph. Is this safe? Should I be doing it a different way?

Thats what we do too. Makes more sense than keep on moving them from lots of different buckets etc. :)

Yup, there's no need to overcomplicate - just move them.

^Ditto. Except one of my s.gouramies. He's been having salt baths lately to rid himself of fungus and I net him out but have to put him back with my hand! It's the only way he'll let me, so he gets cupped gently in my hand and put back in the main tank that way. But he is an exception.

hmmm, a bit dubious myself. also check nitrate. if i were to move fish from my planted tanks (nitrate 2ppm) to the new cobe tank (nitrate 50ppm) the fish wouldn't thank me for it. if all water stats are identical then yes just put them in. if anything is different between the tanks fill a plastic tub (ice cream container etc) 1/2 way with tank water from the fishes original tank, then every 5 minutes add say 10ml's of water from the new tank to the tub. keep going till you've doubled the water volume, then remove 1/2 and repeat. after about 60-90 minutes the fish will be much more happier with the move.

obviously this will work with guppies, danio's etc.. not for big fish (they wouldn't be too happy in an ice cream box!!)

hope that helps.
