I have Spike, my crowntail, in a five gallon tank alone, and a community 29 gallon tank. Well, I have five baby mollies, and more on the way, hopefully. Right now the current babies are residing in the breeder net, but that won't be sufficient for long. I want to free up the five gallon for the baby fish. (Another big tank is in the works to house the babies once they get big- extras will be given to the local pet store) Anyway, I want to put Spike in with my other fish. Here is what I have in the community tank:

5 neons
5 black skirt tetras
4 gold barbs
4 ottos
1 molly
4 platys

Will Spike hurt any of these fish? Will any of these fish hurt him? I have heard its hit or miss with bettas. Would it be advisable for me to buy a tank divider and keep Spike seperate from the other fish for a while?

What do you experienced betta-keepers suggest doing?

I personally wouldnt put him in with the tetras they will fin nip, sometimes they do get along ok, but I personally wouldnt try. If you do try you would really need to have a tank ready for him incase he gets nipped. He could also be rather aggressive towards the other fish, males tend to be better on there own, it really depends on his temperment

The neons might get eaten up, but it really depends on your betta's individual personality. Iv known people who have had the two fish coexist peacefully, and people who had their neons killed off within hours.

I decided not to risk it.

Sigh...looks like another trip to the pet store and another tank! :) As if I needed an excuse...
