some of my guppies are due to give birth anytime soon and i plan on putting the mothers into the breeding trap so the fry can escape the mother, however i have a secondary tank which i am currently cycling that i want to move the fry to what is the best way to move the fry as obviously if i remove the chamber they are in from the main tank then the water will drain out??

A frozen food bag is all you need here :good: Simply fill with about 1/2 a litre of water, and then lift the trap out of the tank. Allow most, but not all, the water to drain, then pour the contents into the bag. Sit the trap back in the tank and alow it to refil. Check for any more fry in the trap. Any left over fry requires you to repeat the process a few times to get them all into the bag. Then move the bag accross, and aclimate as you would with new fish from your LFS :good:

is it a good idea for me to half fill my secondary tank with water from my main tank when i cycle the main one tomorrow??

use an icecream bucket or a measuring cup to scoop the fry out. Make sure the new tank has the same water as the breeding tank so you don't shock the babies.
If you have lots of floating plants in the breeding tank the fry will hide in them. Then you can scoop the plants up in the bucket and get the fry as well.

How have you cycled the new tank? Could you not just move some mature media accross to the new tank, from you existing one? For only a few fry, you will have more than enough bactiria to deal with the waste :good:

All the best
