In my old 170 litre fully planted community i had 70% sand and 30% fine gravel as the substrate (ran out of sand at the time)

its been set up for 6 months and i am now moving everything (except the substrate as i have new sand and wanted 100% sand in new tank) to a 300 litre tank

QUESTION

i was wondering if i should use a small bit of the old substrate at the bottom of the new tank?

does this help at all, or is it not really worth it? If it makes no difference i wont bother as like i said my old substrate is only 70% sand and its all mixed up now

If it might help the plants i will use some of the old substrate at the bottom layer.

My plants are; Onion Plants, Annubia, Java Fern, Moss Balls, Hygraphilia, Riccia and Duckweed

i wouldnt bother. its going to be a lot of work and most of your plants are not even root feeders. just set up the new tank with the new sand and call it a day.
