Moving A Cycling Fish Tank

Hi all,

Decided to buy a stand for one of my cycling fish tanks which is currently sitting on the floor (too paranoid about it exploding you see ) but naturally its full of about 60 litres of water. What would be your best advise for this for moving it the fairly short distance across the room onto the stand? A fellow fishkeeping flatmate said I should reduce the water to say 10-15 litres which should make it just bearable to carry, and also the remaining water will help the water I put back in start to cycle again. Any ideas? I don't fancy even attempting to move it whilst full!

yeah empty enough water in a bucket or a couple of containers so you can move the tank. once tank is moved put water back in and just continue the cycle. saves starting all over again

Is it cycling with fish in or without fish? If youre doing a fishless cycle, just before you would add ammonia as already stated empty most of the water out then move it across the room, put on stand and fill up again - but theres no need to keep the same water, you can add fresh stuff from the tap to save messing about. As long as you add dechlor with the new tap water and the filter stays submerged (or is only left out of water for a few minutes) that'll be fine.
