well i moved my first tank yesterday from living room upstairs to garage down stairs. (2 flights)
4ft 210 litrer tank.
I setup a large plastic storage box filled with tank water. took filter off and placed in storage box, added air bubbles too.
heater put in and away we went.
all fish in and dismantled the tank leaving lights in the hood.
gee it was so heavy to carry down stairs with 2 of us with hood on.   (back ached yesterday, lot better today)
The cabinet was heavy too as made of solid proper wood by my brother.

so set up tank down stairs but put less gravel than before.
finnaly all done after 4 1/2 hours geeeeeeeee.
lot of fish lost colour etc but look great today , just hope there ok.

now for stage 2  decorate living room , lay carpet and then buy a nice 7 x 2 x 2 tank , lights etc.

got myself a fx6 in a box ready.

once completed move fish to new tank and sell 4 foot tank.

I was bit worried about doing it but went ok even if it did take ages.
cant wait for nice new tank.

Not an easy task, I will be moving soon, and am not looking forward to the day I need to catch all the fish and break down my lovely established planted Juwel 180. Always good to see how others do it, and the timeframes.

yes it isnt an easy task, fish still seem ok so hopeful all will be fine.
plastic container wasnt as big as i would have liked but with filter hooked up , heater etc , did a good job.
think more ornaments would have helped as they didnt have many and used to a big 4ft tank, so stressed them a bit.

getting an ND aquatics tank i think, its been a long time coming.
will have a 4ft x 15 x 18 tank up for sale soon, hopefully

Just a question for you...

In respect to your choice of using the large plastic container, did this mean you needed to net the fish twice? Once from the tank, then once into the tank in its new position?

I am contemplating using the large beer barel I have, or bags to transport the fish.

I have now found them a foster home, for them to go to while I get sorted house wise in the move. I have a spare 3ft tank so that will get set up ahead of them, with one of the filters etc.

Oh, also, which make of plastic container did you use, as I have heard that some leech toxins killing fish?

yes i had to net twice , but didnt wanna use small buckets etc. and like a mini home with same deco etc.
I got plastic containers from 'the range' dunno make.    all fish ok tho.
dont think there is a great way but if u have to do it this isnt a bad way.
