Moved female swordie

My new sunet twinbar swordy girl was being picked on by the male wag marigold....so I moved her....he wouldn't even let her eat....so much for them giving me beautiful babies huh.

She is now a new resident in my 30gal with the platies (and single swordy girl)...so far so good...she is swimming around with the other fish and not being picked on. She seems happy

I never thought a male swordy could be so mean....he is fine with the other girls in there....

Bad boy....I should have moved him but he is friendly with the other fish in there.....

Besides....I figure she will make me nice babies with the white male platy in the 30gal

How very odd, I've never had one of my males pick on a female in that manner. I've had females that didn't want anything to do with certain males and certainly males that picked on other males. I wonder if she is perhaps an "unsexed juvenile" that the older male is sensing is going to become a male? Does she show any definate "I'm a girl" traits? (Like obviously pregnant or an obvious gravid spot).

Interesting you should say that polard.....she has no gravid spot and isn't as "round" as my other female swordies. Shape-wise, she looks more like my male swordy She is still very much a female in that she has no beginnings of a sword or of the anal fin folding. Time will tell I guess.

Doesn't matter either way...he/she is still beautiful and is happy in her new tank....the other fish seem to like her too

Glad she's making friends and not getting picked on. Let me know if she turns out to be a male. I've got a couple young ones that I'm watching how the adult males react to and trying to guess if they are potential males.

Its weird....she was being bullied by the male swordy in the tank....having me think she might be male...but now shes in the 30gal the 2 male platies in there are trying to have their way with her she doesn't seem worried about it though.

I hope she is a girl....she would give me lovely fry
