Previously stated really freaking late ago, my new tigers had some early stages of mouth rot. I went out and bought some "API E.M. Erythromycin" cause it was the only stuff left that claimed to treat it.
I went ahead and used full dosage, as they're the only ones in the tank, even though it's not really a strong case of mouth rot. It says to redose in full tomorrow, then the next day do a 25% water change and redose in full again.
This leads to a quick question. If the signs of mouth rot are gone before all three of these doses, should I discontinue, or keep going just to make sure it's dead?
I also removed the filter pad as it had activated carbon in it, and the directions said to remove any carbon, and it's sitting in another filter now to save the bacteria after it's finished. However, I did throw in an empty filter pad with no carbon as a sort of junk catcher.
Should this be removed as well, or am I safe to keep it there?
I turned down the head to 76 just because online research says the bacteria grows faster at 77 degrees or more, and did a large water change before dosing just to make sure the water is clear and ready.
That's about it as far as my precautions go. Any other advice for treating this? Thanks much
