bought 2 mollies 2 days ago, when i bought them the whole tank looked healthy and lively, now they have both developed white patches on their lips, didnt Q as they looked fine and the lfs has a good reputaion :/

i have clown loaches and fry in the tank, no air pump, just surface movement from the filter
all the tests are spot on, and i do a 20% wc every day without fail ( makes me feel wanted lol)

the fry are only 1 and 2 days old so its them in worried about,
its a 200l and not over stocked :)
appreciate any advice

ps sorry cant get a pic, my fone cam wont get in that close :(

thankyou wilder, ill start the course first thing in the morning, as soon as the lfs opens.. will the fry be ok with that med? and of course the clown loaches?

Is it like a cotton wool like type patch on the mouth.
yes thats it :( one has her lips covered with it, and the other just has a patch.. has come on ever so quickley

Clown loaches should be fine its more the parasite meds they don't tolerate to well.
Not sure about the fry, I know you have to half dose with parasite meds but not sure on bacterial.
I think I would go in with full dose and just hope the fry are ok, as columnaris if a bad strain can wipe a whole tank out.
Don't forget to increase aeration in the tank.

Do you have a fry tank you could move them too.

One of my rainbows has this at the moment, just started a course of Myxazin. Hope yours pull through.

no no fry tank at the moment,, i set it up as the shrimp tank, ill pick one up this morning from the lfs.....i may be lucky and they wont be effected :/

bad news, the mollie that dad it all over her lips died over night, wheni took her out she had patches of what looked like blood all over her body... does this still mean columaris do you think?

Yes, scepticima is the one of the last parts of columnaris Shelagh, sounds like a nasty strain, get those meds asap. Good luck hon :)

yeah i thought thats what it was, i had a silver shark die from it not long after joining the forum.... really hope the rest will be ok.............stupid beginner mistake in not quaranteening them first!!!

All the fish are fairly recent, so QT would have been fairly pointless IMO, its just one of those things, catch it early enough and you should be lucky. Dont know what temp you have the tank at Shelagh, but if its higher than 25, drop it a few degress, columnaris doesnt like lower temps (allegedly).

Columnaris can cause septicmia shel.
A good link to columnaris.

In would lower your temp.

COLUMNARIS
The hospital tank should be heated to approx. 74 degrees. 76 and above is the ideal breeding temperature for columnaris. Though there is some dispute over lowering the temperature, my experience has been that 72 is too low for the medication to work rapidly, 76+ causes the disease to breed more rapidly than the anti-biotic can kill, and 74 is "just right." Remember to keep this temperature stable!
