HELP. one of my corys has fungus around its whiskers and part way up its head. i NEVER see any of them but one died yesterday :byebye: and now ive seen another one and its ill :-( . Ive dosed em up on anti fungal business. but nothing in the tank has changed except the water conditioner i use. MY CORYS ARE MY FAVOURITES and now they are ill :( dont want em to die

:hi: to the forum. Introduce yourself in the newbie section.

How long have you had those cories? What size tank is it? What is the water chemistry like?

Fungus and diseases aren't always caused by things from outside of the tank. Fish succumb to diseases due to stress. The easiest way to keep them healthy is to keep water conditions good and to make sure they're not getting attacked or harrassed by other fish.

I'd say Melafix is good at treating fungus. You'll gte more help from others, though, because I haven't had many problems with fungus.

HTH

tis 3 foot long tank erm cant remember volume. had em about 2 years. dont no about the water chemistry never really had any problems so stopped checking. am a poor student :p

there are 7, no 6 now corys
2 pearl gouramis
5 neons
5 harlequins
4 cherry barbs
is understocked so shoudlnt really be much of a problem. i do a 30% water change every other week and nothing has changed FOREVER. dunno is all a bit weird :(

Well then, I can't quite help you.

I'd medicate the entire tank, though, to make sure the fungus dpesn't spread.

il just sit and cry a bit and hope then. mind u with corys i never see the damn things so i could be down to 2 really and not now about it

Cories unfortunately are pretty succeptable to fungus. What treatment are you using? You may need to get a stronger medicine, like one of the pill-types. Melafix and jungle tabs (and some others like them) don't always have the power to reverse serious infections and fungus outbreaks.

what type of corrys are they...

I've had problems with Pandas... I wanted 4 but have had to have eight as for died. one got mouth fungus (actually a bacterial infection) and couldnt eat so he died :-(

The 4 that i've got now have come through and are now stable (2 from the first 4 and 2 from the 2nd 4).

As for water quality - mine was absolutly fine whan we had the problems :dunno:

they are c. julii.

i cant get anywhere that sells any stronger medication at the mo as my other half has cleared off to germany in the car and im stranded.

raised the temp up to 27ish, done a 10% water change today and did one yesterday.

getting more worried now as the two gouramis are mopey around under the heater instead of being their normal nosey selves.

ARGH DISASTER :-(

oh ive had a thought. i was away for a while last week and when i came back the light had blown. tank could have been low on light for a few days. mebbe the nitrates went up because the plants were slowed down. hmmm.

_grasping at straws-

I'd go out and spend £50 on a small tank setup and quarintine all that are looking bad.

it'll be easier to treat a smaller tank too.

make sure you still treat the other tank too.

i cant or i woudl have already. theres nothign local and my car is in GERMANY. dammit. have a tank but not a heater as my spare is BUST.

gourami is lying being held between 2 bits of java fern and lyign on another. it seems to be havign real trouble breathing :-( :-( :-( :-( :-(

i think it will be rip little fishy very soon :rip:
