Just interested to check: I have a Sunrise Platy(thats right, orange/red tail and head with yellow centre) and i know definitively she is pregnant...i however do not know her term. Atm viewing from side on i can see the dark patches of the frys eyes(very defined against the stretched translucent orange. At this point what period of her pregnancy is it? (i could for my other as she was not as defined wrt to seeing the fry).

Thanks

probably in a few days - 1 week. and isnt it called sunset fire wag platy? its in the index i think, and i have one :D

ok, when the platy looks at you head on, look at the abdomen. It suppsoed to look like a pouch.

If the pouch seems to be restricted in the middle, forming a 'w', then it can take a few hours to a week to give birth. If not, then the fry has some growing to do.

If you post a pic, I could help.

Heh...Nup....Just a Sunset. A Sunset fire wag has a black tail(wag means black tail in the case of platies). Mine is purely Red orange and gold. Ill let you all know when she pops...my other youngsters are doin great :).

I always noticed a few days before my platies give birth, their bottom of their stomachs get flat, like not round lol, kind of like a square. I also noticed that the black dots (fry eyes) get really close to the anal fin.

Well she has given birth, exactly a week after i posted: 12 Fry that i can find, all fighting fit, and have been placed in with my 3 week olds. There are a few others but they are difficult to catch, and they seem to have found a bastion in my planted wood. Mind you they have to be careful: there a three gourami's that have got quit a few over the course of the night: they arent interested in food for a change. The stalking is fascinating. will post a pic of my fry tank soon.
