I'll soon be buying a 2nd Jewel 80 litre tank. I feel i've slightly overstocked my current one so I was thinking... in this new one I would put in guppy + swordtail fry once they're at a decent enough size to handle small fish and also internal filters.

So... out of the following species, which would you move into the new tank along with the fry (once big enough)-

This is the stock in my current tank-

Harlequin Rasboras
Silver tip tetra
Neon Tetra
Corys
Black Widows
Dwarf Gourami
Male + Female swordtail

i suspect harlequins or neons myself!!!

Or perhaps another species i could add from my LFS?

Personally i would get some endlers and put them in with them, not only do endlers breed every 17-20 days but the males are really nice with a fantastic color pattern on them, and they stay fairly small :)

The tank in my sig is full of endlers

here is what a male endler looks like

oh. in some respects similar to guppys?

I can't 'get rid' of the guppys though to be honest lol and also, i think the guppy + swordtail fry will be plenty of fry for me

You can never have enough fry ;)

Fry = lots = take to lfs = credit for fish food, and other things. the fry can run your tank for free if you go about it the right way :)

I know that, and believe me i'd love to. but i don't have the room! and fry have to be brought up first before my LFS will take them! 2-3 months he said for guppys... he has already said he'll buy them off me!

yeah most TFS like them at selling/sellable size. Good thing is near me, i can get £5 for a decent bag of fry which after a few months of taking in 10 bags a week, can soon add up.

OK so it's between Harlequin Rasboara or Silver tip tetra to accompany some swordtail fry + guppy fry (at a decent size)

Your choice buddy, i like endlers in with my fry, just males if you dont want them to breed

But its your tank and your choice so if thats what you want, then go for it ;)

OK well it's going to be a 70 litre setup, What sorta amount should i go for?

In terms of fry, currently have 16 swordtail fry and 1 guppy fry (more due soon) - Fry will be sold to my LFS after about 2/3 months

Well to be honest, IM guessing 71 liters, thats a 2ft x 12 x 15 tank right?

In one of my breeding tanks which is 2ft, i have 6 female endlers and 2 males endlers, also i have about 200 fry approx.

The way i have it now though is, by the time i come to taking out 50 that are ready to be sold another loads of fry as been born, so really there is usually about 150 fry approx..

the tank has a 1ft x 1ft section ( like a giant breeding trap ) more to top left of the tank if you know what i mean, this is where the adult endlers are, when they drop there fry, they all fall in to the bottom part, which is a bout 3" tall, and they usually swim in to the right hand side of the tank which is the remaining 12"x 15"..

here is a example...

I modified the tank before origianlly setting it up, its done with a glass seperator in the middle, and the bottom part is plastic (my m8 made me it to fit the tank with the slots in).

All i wanted to do was make it so that the tank was like 1 big breeding trap, but big enough to not stress the fish, so thats why i chose a 2ft tank :)

Do you breed anything apart from livebearers 5teady?

Do you keep the bristlenoses in a species only tank or comm.?
