Guppies are lovely with beautiful colours and so on but I'll still put my money on mollies. They're like puppies, will happily swim onto your hand and be tickled on their bellies. They all come up to the tank glass and wag their tails at you.
So I'd rather breed guppies for their colour, but I'd choose mollies to keep any day!

But EVERYONE has guppies, so I am assuming they are pretty popular, especially with their tails and such.

I voted for endlers, I picked up a nice selection a few weeks ago. As common as they are, I've never actually had guppies, they do look nice in the shop granted. I had platys for a while and they had huge batches of fry, quite enjoying the swordtails in my main tank too, the male can be a bit of a bully from time to time.

Guppys used to be my fav common livebearers but they are so inbred and weak now days it is difficult to find good strong healthy ones at petshop's, platys on the other hand seem hardier than guppys to me and i like them a great deal so i voted platys although it is still a tough choice between them and guppys for me :good: .

platties!.....
out of my small bit of experence with fish as an adult

the guppys die eaiser....I think I made every newbie mistake posible
males and females are both colorfull
a few guppys were bitchy nippy and liked to defend their terratory.....they went back to the store

and the platties are eaiser for my son to see.....though I am not sure how great it is for the fish to have a one year old screaming "isheys! isheys!" at them every time he see them.

I hate... hate guppies. It's not worth a fish that dies every week. So platies, for me.

I voted platies... LUV THEM.

'Platies aren't as big and don't have as strong a colouration'.
True, guppies can often have striking colours, as can endlers, but both are smaller than platies. Mollies can be prettier, but in my experience are nippier. You should see my copperblack line - stunning colouration, and I'm selecting for size as well.

'Mollies will swim straight to your hand'.
Mine do. So do my platies. It's easier with mollies, but with patience and fish food platies can also be hand-tamed. I can remove any of my platies from the tank without nets or panicked fish - it's just a matter of waiting until the right one is positioned inside my hand.

I also love guppies, but I swung it in favour of platies just because I have a soft spot for them. Guppies can be more colourful, but female platies can be as nice as the males - the foundation of my copperblack line is a female, and the nicest platy I've ever seen. And I agree, what's being done to guppies and mollies (deltatailed/balloon fish that can't swim) is atrocious. I've seen guppies with big tails that have L-bends from trying to support the weight and drag.
