I was wondering what do you think is the most aggressive fish that you can keep in an aquarium?

In my opinion, I'd say the Mangrove Red Snapper.

Here's a pic

Red Snapper

P.S. I know it says red- tail datnoid, but it's not really a datnoide.

IME, Jewel cichlids. They beat up fish over territory.

I don't really think all predatory fish are agressive, just hungry. Piranhas don't attack other fish for the reasons cichlids do, they attack other fish because they need food. My Ctenopoma acutirostre are among the least agressive fish I have, and so was my leaf fish, diet has nothing to do with attitude ;)

Parachromis dovvi and Flowerhorns are the first couple of fish that come to mind for me.

In freshwater its a close call between a Hemibagrus wykkii or Channa micropeltes, both will attack anything which enters their territory which includes humans and are joint contenders for the crown of the most aggressive freshwater fish in the world.

...im assuming both are4 cichlid varieties?

No, the Hemibagrus is a catfish commonly known as the black devil or crystal eyed catfish and the Channa is a snakehead known as the redline snakehead. When it comes to the truely nasty fish Cichlids come a fair way down the list compared to some of the bigger catfish and oddballs.

This is what happens when you put two of the most aggressive FW fish in the same tank and what an angry or hungry redline snakehead can do to another fish with just a few bites, the Hemibagrus wykii in these pictures was over 3 feet long.

deffinately the Wykkii. I heard of a guy that had to wear chain-mail gloves to feed his specimin otherwise it would tear chunks from his arm.
