When I get my tank planted I would like to have a branch almost completely covered with moss but I know java moss doesn't like heated water that much so is there anything better.

I got a couple of balls of java mose from greenline a while ago it arrived looking brown and unhealthy( idon't know if this i normal) after I put it in my tank a couple of green bit appeared but after that nothing happened. Last week I moved it into a cold water tank and half the ball has already turned green.

hmmm something thats not java moss but looks like it.. how hot is your water btw ?? maybe riccia ? in my experience it isn't that finicky with water temp... but i might be wrong

My water is about 25/26C. Maybe it wasn't the temp it didn't like. Do none of the other mosses prefer warmer water e.g christmas moss.

25-26 ?!?!? well its a bit hard to generalize but i have 2 sp. of java moss thats doing ok in my tank.. its a bit browner then usual but its doing ok!

my water temp ranges from 27-29 deg celcius.

generally mosses should prefer a bit cooler water temp but 25-26 is just ok IMO :) maybe the water is out of nutrients. java moss is a heavy water colum feeder

hope this helps

Ok not yet sorted out fertilizers all they are getting is king british plant food twice a week. It is the same in my cold tank though. I think I am going to let it flourish in my cold tank and then when it is really healthy i will move some of it back into heated water It might have a better chance of surviving.

My experience with Java Moss is all good. When i first received it, it was all brown and looked dead. But after a few days/weeks it turned green and just kept on growing.

My tank temp is always in the high 26-78F region.

Make sure its properly secured onto a surface and keep your nitrate levels up, it what worked for me.
