i am looking for a moss carpet to cover part/most maybe all of my aquarium substrate, what would be the best choice for something that spreads quickly and does not grow very tall.
i was hoping that i can simply put moss in a mesh on the bottom of the tank on top of my rounded gravel and forget about it. i do not want to change my gravel or use co2.

I've just got some US fissidens (Fissidens fontanus) from eBay on a wire mesh - only 5cm sq at the moment. Have read that it grows to about 1½-2" high - it's still a bit battered from being in the post but green so I'm hoping it will recover soon.
It's slow growing tho I guess you could lay more or bigger "tiles" to start with but it doesn't need any ferts or CO2 - apparently they adapt to your water stats.

Just found a picture of it! Hope mine gets like this!!!!

How do you clean the substrate, when you have a moss carpet like this?  Very tempted to try it, as I love the look.  But I don't understand how you keep everything clean.
