do moss balls grow if so how big?

and can you split divide them to make more?
 if not how do they start life!?

Moss balls form by an algae that rolls in circles along the bottom of a lake somewhere in japan, gradually becoming bigger and bigger.. though you can divide the moss balls and make more moss clumps they may lose there ball shape if you don't provide a strong current to allow them to roll freely..they can get as big as the size of your head if you let them..

Yup I've had ones grow from tiny amounts. The new ones stay roughly ball shaped but much more hairy looking. I net mine to rocks to stop them rolling about.
