I just bought a moss ball today, and wondered if I could rip it up into say 3 bits and stick it on a cave, more specifically a coconut cave. Would it stick to it eventually if I tied it down with cotton or isn't there a chance? I think it would look really awesome.

Thanks,
Neal

In my experience, that doesn't work too well. They soak up the dirt (with balls you can rinse them), the underneath died and it never attathed itself. It's not to be confused with Java Moss.

I know it's not java moss, i'm just wondering if it worked in a similar way, it would look awesome with a coconut cave covered in it.
Thanks for your help,
Neal

I think Kent was meaning that it doesn't work like java moss. It doesn't have the little rhizoids to grab onto things. From what I understand, the inside of the ball that doesn't get light dies so large balls are hollow. If you tied it to something, the underside would die, so I don't think that would be very conducive to sticking. You need to rotate your ball to keep it round and get equal amounts of light to the different sides. And they need a lot of light. They don't do well under your run of the mill lighting that comes with your tank, so I haven't tried one.
