Hi

It's been about 7 years since I kept Malawis. Can't remember that much about breeding.
I separated one of my female morriis and put her in my breeding tank as she was carrying eggs. When I came home from work this evening there are about 30-40 ??? (To small to count) fry in the tank. The question is when should I separate the mother and put her back in the big tank ? Is there a danger that she will eat the fry ? Have feed her already. Will the fry eat crushed flake ?

:D

Get her out asap its better for her. The fry will be ok on crushed flake or bbs.

Ginge

Thanks !!! Can't take her out until tomorrow.
The thing is when I go next to the tank she scoops up all the babys. So how can I make sure she is not going to do that when I try to take her out ? Don't want to end up with the babys in the main tank.

Try putting in some hiding spaces for the babies to go in then hopefully she wont feel the need to scoop them up or you can always removet the fry manually from her mouth (think its called srripping???) if she just keeps swallowing them. But that is a last resort. She wont eat them aslong as you feed her well.

mother is fine

fry are fine

as long as she is eating and protecting them she is doing what is naturel.

when they get too large for her to scoop up thats when you can take her out but until then everybody is fine and thriving well.

check out a food called "daphnia" it's extremely good for the fry. bbs is super good too :good:

Agreed mother will be fine what size tank is she in and how big is she???

Thanks everybody :)

She is in a 10 gal tank and she is about 4inches. I put some barnacles in the tank for the babys to hide in.

Thanks again
